Consumer Affairs Victoria

Consumer Affairs Victoria was established in 1965 as Australia’s first government consumer agency. From handling fewer than 500 complaints in its first year it now deals with over half a million enquiries and nearly 20,000 written complaints. It also oversees forty-five consumer protection laws and provides business licensing and registration functions.

The important history of CAV and the range of market place issues in Victoria over the last half a century was presented as a series of storyboard panels at the entrance to the CAV offices in Exhibition Street, Melbourne.
